I first came across the “phenomenon” of drinking pure celery juice through a good friend of mine, after she posted about it in her Instagram stories. After becoming intrigued by her posts, I decided to look into it myself.
I’m sure most of us are familiar with typical green juice, which usually consists of fistfuls of dark leafy greens – along with other fruits or veggies for added sweetness. The whole point of juicing these powerful plants is for the purpose of the nutrients and antioxidants they have to offer, making it easier for the body absorb them without the extra work of breaking down the fibers for digestion.
So when I read the countless testimonials of celery juice through Medical Medium and Celery Juice Benefits on Instagram, my interest only naturally piqued. Now I love a good green smoothie and all that it has to offer. But learning that celery juice tops even the “best green smoothie” recipe out there, I knew I had to give it a shot. Anthony Williams – or better known as the Medical Medium states that celery juice, “is one of the most powerful and healing juices we can drink. Just 16 ounces of fresh celery juice every morning on an empty stomach can transform your health and digestion in as little as one week.”
Celery contains compounds called coumarins, which are known to enhance the activity of white blood cells and support the vascular system. It also helps to purify the bloodstream, aid in digestion, relax the nerves, reduce blood pressure, and clear up skin problems. Celery is rich in vitamin A, magnesium, and iron, which all help to nourish the blood. Celery juice is also rich in organic sodium content, meaning it has the ability to dislodge calcium deposits from the joints and hold them in solution until they can be eliminated safely from the kidneys. Sounds pretty amazing right? I was certainly intrigued enough to give this simple green juice a try. Here’s what happened:
- Better digestion
For as long as I can remember, anything and everything I would eat would never digest properly . It would always take days for everything to clear my body, making me feel sluggish, tired, and overall just big. This is where the superhero of celery juice steps in, as its natural sodium content raises stomach acid, and when drunk first thing in the morning primes you for easy digestion for the rest of the day. Stomach acid is essential for breaking down food, particularly protein. If your stomach acid is lowered, the body then has to step in using more resources to try to digest that food, thus making you tired.

With its ability to improve digestion, celery juice also kicks one of the most pesky symptoms of digestion to the curb: bloating. Celery juice is an effective natural diuretic, and along with its ability to flush toxins out of the body, it reduces bloated abdomens and edema, too. With my stomach acid raised and my digestion improved, I wasn’t bloated once during my experiment with celery juice—since everything was running smoothly through my system and digesting well, there was no chance for food to get backlogged, sit there undigested, and therefore cause gas to build up.

Ever since having my youngest – Valor, my sweet tooth has been my worst enemy! I never used to crave sweets, but all of that shifted after I had him. After incorporating celery juice, I’ve noticed that I no longer crave or think about having anything sweet. To me, that is a game changer itself!

Now, weight loss I have read is one of the perks of incorporating celery juice. So far, being 15 days in, I have dropped about 3 lbs – which I believe could be water weight. And just any excess fluids my body was holding onto. Since celery has a high water content, and a healthy level of natural sodium, it allows your body to expel all the unnecessary liquid you don’t need. Hopefully this helps me achieve my weight loss goals, along with everything else I am currently doing.
- Clearer, Brighter Skin
One of the top talked about benefits of celery juice is its healing properties it offers for the skin, and eliminating acne. Although I have been fortunate enough to have breakout free skin, I would always experience the worst breakouts around that time of the month. Being 15 days in, and through a womanly cycle, I haven’t had a single breakout. I have also noticed that my complexion seems more even, and overall brighter and hydrated. The goal is to have that glow from within look!

One thing I have always been embarrassed about and have hated, is that I suffer from fever blister breakouts. You never know when it’s coming, and when it does, it would usually last longer than a week. No matter over the counter treatment id use, nothing really worked and I would have to have it run its course. As I have been drinking celery juice, and my body is flushing out all of the toxins and dormant ailments, I have had a breakout. The crazy part is, it was no where near as bad as it has been in the last, and the best part of it all – it only lasted FOUR days tops! To me, that was freaking amazing! I can only hope that as I continue to drink celery juice, the fear of ever getting another fever blister no longer exists and they are completely gone. One day! I am fully confident!
Want to give it try yourself, but don’t have a juicer? Here’s how and what I use to make my juice every morning:
- 1 head of Organic Celery (regular celery is ok, but organic is best, one head yields right at about 16oz)
- Tiny splash of filtered water
- High power blender
- Cheese Cloth/Nut Bag
- Wash and roughly chop the head of celery into rough chunks.
- Add to a blender along with a splash of water (to help the blades spin).
- Blend for a few seconds until broken down.
- Pour into a large bowl through a nut-milk bag.
- Squeeze through the juice, and compost the remaining fiber in the nut-milk bag. Drink immediately for the most nutritional benefits.
